In a continued push for greener communities, The GIANT Company has announced the return of its “Healing the Planet” grant program, committing $112,000 toward native tree planting projects across Pennsylvania.

This initiative, now in its fifth year, is a partnership with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, and aims to support environmental efforts in the areas GIANT and MARTIN’S stores serve — including Hilltown Township in Bucks County, as well as Montgomery Township and Hatfield Township in Montgomery County.

Tax-exempt organizations are encouraged to apply for grants of up to $4,000 for shovel-ready projects focused on planting native Pennsylvania trees. Grant funds may be used for trees, equipment, signage, tools, and related supplies, according to a news release.

Applications are being accepted online through July 1, 2025, via the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful website, with recipients to be announced in late July.

The GIANT Company’s “Healing the Planet” program is rooted in the belief that trees play a powerful role in everyday life — from providing food and habitat to cooling streets and enhancing community well-being, according to the company. Last year’s program resulted in the planting of more than 3,000 trees throughout the state.

This year’s effort builds on more than $1.2 million in funding distributed since the program began, supporting a variety of environmentally focused projects such as connecting families to green spaces, protecting waterways, reducing food waste, and planting trees, per a news release.

“Greener neighborhoods not only enhance beauty but also help deter littering and other illegal activities, creating safer, more vibrant places to live, work and play,” said Heidi Pedicone, director of programs at Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

Locals can also take part in other sustainability efforts through The GIANT Company’s broader initiatives, including food waste reduction, green energy, and plastic use reduction.
