Keystone Opportunity Center was a beneficiary of the May 10 National Association of Letter Carriers’ (NALC) 32nd annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive, the largest single-day food collection event in the country.

As part of the event, local letter carriers collected non-perishable food donations from Souderton-Telford area residents and delivered them to community food pantries, including Keystone Opportunity Center, which supports more than 5,000 individuals annually in Montgomery and Bucks counties, said a Keystone press release.

Throughout the afternoon, Keystone volunteers sorted and processed the food donations at the organization’s food pantry. The drive comes at a critical time as food banks grapple with federal funding cuts while they prepare for increased demand during the summer months when school meal programs pause, said the release.

“We are so very grateful for the amazing volunteers and the dedicated staff at the Souderton Telford Post Office for their invaluable support during the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on May 10,” said Clarice Foster, Keystone’s food pantry manager. “Thanks to their efforts, 2,979 pounds of food were collected, sorted, and stocked. We truly couldn’t do this without them. Their commitment and support helps us serve more than 250 families each month through our food pantry.”

Since its inception in 1993, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive has collected more than 1.9 billion pounds of food nationwide. The effort is supported by the U.S. Postal Service, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, United Way, the AFL-CIO, Valpak and local food charities.

Keystone Opportunity Center, founded in 2009 and headquartered in Souderton, Pa., is a nonprofit human services organization that annually supports more than 5000 families and individuals in need through a comprehensive array of social services that educate, encourage, and empower them to become self-sufficient members of their community. Programs and services include housing the homeless, combatting food insecurity, and providing free comprehensive adult education services. For more information, visit keystoneopportunity.org
